David and I have been preparing for many years as you may be aware after reviewing our story. We are blessed to have Amp-3, and we hope to help you get better prepared for whatever might come your way. We look forward to your input as we continue to build on what we have started over 9 years ago. Amp-3, has given us a venue to provide quality products (Made in the USA) along with our 100 Essentials we hope to help you and your family become better prepared.

You never know what could be around the corner in our lives so here are a few steps to take to help you get focused and ready. Here are a few of my favorite websites to check out:

1. A great website with many aspects to it is Survivalist Boards. This forum discussion has so many pages for you to check out from General Discussion, Off Grid, Urban Survival, Food and Water and so on. This is a vast amount of information and a great website to join and follow.

2.  Off Grid Boot Camp presented by Nick Meissner. David has taken Nick’s course and thought that it was incredibility informative, comprehensive and money well spent. Nick just finished putting up a new solar system on his property in Idaho.

3. Amp-3 Recourses page is another place to get your 100 Essentials. Download the document, cross off what you already have and that helps you narrow your list down to what you need to work on. We all live on a budget but if you commit to adding to your preparedness every month you will have this list completed in no time.

The Humless ESS (Energy Storage System) is the one we are looking at to power our home at the ranch in Southern Oregon.

Remember, that preparedness in for Everyday, not just when you have an emergency!

What is your Plan?

Emergency Communication is probably one of the least talked about aspects of preparedness, but in our opinion, it plays a vital role in ensuring your survival during any type of disaster. We have some ideas that might help you be better prepared in the event of an emergency.

Do you have a Communications Plan? Having a pre-established plan will help you, your family and emergency contacts to maintain communication and obtain critical information in the time of need.

For more information about Emergency Communications, click here for your downloadable document.

Many of you may have thought about getting a Ham Radio License but think I don’t have the time or it’s going to be too hard! Right???

Well, do your self and your family a favor and get this done on your Preparedness List! Look on line for a Local Ham Radio Club. Attend a meeting and find someone who can help you achieve this goal.

Every June in Oregon we have Sea-Pac where you can attend classes, purchase new and used equipment, talk to venders and meet other Hams. This is a really fun way to get you into getting your Ham.

Ham Radio Outlet also known as HRO is another great resource! The guys that work here are not only very knowledgeable but will get you going in the right direction.

One thing that I have realized over the years is that one radio isn’t ever enough. You need one in your go bag, home, and your car. Currently we have about 20 Ham Radios.

A few years back, David would with The Prepper Project to product our 2 DVD set on Survival Communication. We are no longer affiliated with The Prepper Project and have on 20 Sets of our DVD’s in stock. Once these are sold we won’t be getting any more but better things are on the horizon!

Lights Out!

Lights Out! What happened in California, on October 19th was a complete failure to plan ahead. With very little time to get ready for the “Lights Out” plan that PGE in California caused panic and anxiety! Failure to plan ahead causes this.

David and I were in Harbor Freight in Medford, OR the other day. While we were there, the phone was ringing off the hook. We were standing next to a pile of Generators and a truck in the parking lot with California plates. In Klamath Falls the day before, Coastal Farm and Ranch was selling out of there Generator’s. This was a failure to plan ahead! Have you downloaded my list of 100 Essentials as of yet?

What are you waiting for? It’s FREE! Before planned blackouts are through in two or three days, as many as 3 million Californians may go without power. How many of these residents are prepared for this outage that they say could last 3-5 days? What about those folks with Electric Cars? Living through a major Earthquake back in 1989, we learned how to prepare for situations like this. First of all, you never want to wait for the situation, you want to have a plan in place when the emergency happens.

A great man once said: "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." Benjamin Franklin

Lately, I have been looking at alternative power sources for the ranch once we build the new cabin and in a couple of years the new house. In doing this, we are going to install the Humless Universal solar generator as well as the Wood Boiler that we already have for additional heat for the floors and home.

Don’t wait for the emergency to happen, plan ahead and relax when everyone is panicking!

Do One or Two Things!

Preparing for an emergency such as an earthquake or wildfire can feel like a daunting task at the outset. What to pack? How much water? How much food? Where to meet? Who to call?

That's why I encourage everyone to take baby steps and check off one item at a time using my list of 100 Essentials or one initiative called Do One Thing!

With this in mind, let’s get started on becoming better prepared for natural disasters or what ever might come your way. Every month take 2 or 3 items from the list to add to your personal preparedness. Remember, slow but steady progress toward the ultimate goal of better emergency preparedness.

Getting your go bag ready, you can take a whole month and find some things for your go bag, get that ready, put it in your car, put it in a place in your house. Then the next month you can focus on getting a two-week supply of food and water. You get the idea! Have items for you and your family that you know you will eat. Purchase food items that have a long shelf life. We prefer. Honeyville has everything that your family will need! We order from them on a regular basis.

I think most people just really like to think it’s not going to happen to me! That’s when you know you are not prepared. If you live in an area that has forest fires you need to understanding that you’re in a hazard area or that it can happen to you is probably one of the greatest things you can do to begin with. Better to be prepared then to think it’s not going to happen.

Consider having a storage locker to store all of your preps. This should be fire proof and water proof to protect your valuable preparedness supplies. We currently have two storage places as we have two properties and depending on where we are, we want to be prepared.

Plan, Prepare and Practice are the three pillars of Preparedness. Summer coming soon so plant your garden and can your produce!

Let me know your thoughts and keep preparing for your family and your future!
