100 Essentials-Itmes #50 to #55

Well, were already 1/2 way through my list and I hope that you feel better prepared then you did when this all began with Item #1! thank you for following along and I hope that your sharing this with your family and friends.

Item #50 Mosquito Repellent. Consumer Reports looked at repellents with synthetic chemicals like DEET. As well as ones that contain picaridin and Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus which mimic chemicals found in nature. And there were also plant based repellents labeled, "natural" with ingredients like citronella, lemongrass and cedar oils.

Two products with DEET earned top scores - Total Home Woodland Scent Insect Repellent with 30% deet and OFF Deep Woods Insect Repellent. If you want to skip th DEET, Repel Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus formula performed almost as well.

Or, consider this Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent with 20% Picaridin. Consumer Reports says DEET products are safe for everyone including children. It recommends choosing a repellent with 30-percent DEET or less. And even when you are wearing a repellent remember to always do a thorough tick after being outdoors.

(Where you purchase the products listed below is up to you, I only hope that you have a large quantity on hand so you know that you have it)

Continuing on to Item #51. Duct Tape and Plastic Sheeting. These items can help with keeping things dry as well as protecting items from sun and insects. These items can also be used to cover windows in the event of chemical attack. Make sure that you have a 4 mil or better to cover windows and remember the vents also need to be covered in this case. Time will be limited so planning ahead might just save your life. An excellent article to read was published in august 2001.

Next,  I have Item #52 Tarps, Stakes, Twine, Rope, Spikes and I will add Paracord!

So many uses for these items that it might be hard for me to list them all. You could make a shelter, start a fire, make a clothes line, cover fire wood, on & on! I think that you could probably come up with 1000 uses for these 6 items. Stock up on all of these and you should be set for yourself or to help a neighbor!

Item #53 Candles, I have spoken about them before. You should look for a antique candle maker to have on hand in case of emergency. It's easy and fun to make your own candles. Watch and enjoy Bees Wax Candle Making!

Irem #54 Liquid Laundry Soap. Maybe try making you own of this as well. I never have but think I will once were down at the Ranch.

Finally, this week we end with #55 Backpacks and Duffel Bags. These are items that you probably already have on hand and your go bag is always with you. So many uses for these bags that they don't need explanation. I prefer light weight bags over the heavier ones as I know that I will have this with me everywhere I go. Sometime soon I will share with you what I have in my go bag. Woman want something they can carry with them too. Here's my REI Flash 22. Click image to see on REI website.
